| San Francisco is the String Theory of cities - wrap your mind around that. One weekend, I got up at 5:30 in the morning. By 5:45 I was in the water surfing. When I was finally convinced that the ocean must have woken up cranky that day, I met Jenn for brunch at the DeYoung Museum. Bored out of our minds by the African Art exhibition, we had sandwiches and coffee in the garden area. The day was nice so we decided to walk home through the park, past the atrium, rose garden, and tennis courts. In 20 minutes we were back to our |

While I hopped in the shower, Jenn went downstairs to our wine shop where Zere, the owner and wine guru/wine brat recommended a nice Pinot Noir : Bistro Wine, french I think - very tasty. | stoop and within 15 minutes arrived downtown in Union Square where we talked about some of the things that I had on my wishlist and purchased all the things on Jenn's. My office happened to be a stone's throw away so we dropped off our day's labor and headed out again unhindered and searching for my next caffeine fix. We decided on this little Gelato place Jenn knew about nearby and were again on our way. Somewhere between point A and B we stumbled upon the set of a movie and could not resist standing around doing absolutely nothing but hoping to get a glimpse of celebrity - which by the way we did not, though in Jenn's version she swears she saw Will Smith from the back - funny that she did not mention such an important sighting until three days later when we read in the paper that he was supposedly shooting a movie in San Francisco. It was an unsually warm day so we comtemplated our options, hiking on Mt. Tamalpais, kayaking in Sausalito, or 9 holes of golf. With the world at our doorstep we made the only rational decision... we got more frozen yogurt and pretended we were on a first date and I basically spent the rest of the afternoon chasing her around the Ferry Building farmers' market trying one liners as a self proclaimed hippy gave us his dissertation on the subtleties of caviar, which seemed a bit strange that a hippy would have a high end shop selling caviar and champagne, until he explained that he gave up the hemp clothing and poetry when he moved from Berkeley to Napa - Bill, if your reading this, no, it's not the same thing. That night, we took our bottle of Bistro wine to my favorite restaurant in the Mission - a place I call mudge pool but which Jenn reminds me everytime I call it that that it is actually called Majuval or some variation thereof. It was the first Saturday of the month so no corkage fee. Like the end of every Saturday night, on the way home we talked about going dancing and decided to go ... tomorrow night. Sometimes I wish I were describing every weekend but mostly I am glad that I am not.
The city of everything. That's how Stephen Hawkins would describe San Francisco. I am sure of it. |
